The main aims and objectives of EVI are:

– to conduct and support research, training, health information dissemination and other programs regarding blinding eye diseases, visual disorders, mechanisms of visual function, preservation of sight and the special health problems and requirements of the blind and visually impaired

– to improve the coherence and coordination and reduce fragmentation of the scientific vision research community of the EU by facilitating and coordinating basic and clinical research activities

– to provide organisational resources and funding on demand for detailed and high-quality research in the area of Vision Research in the European Union

– to assemble a professional core group in a unified management to provide advice and guidance in Vision Research

– to coordinate, as an advisory board, the resources of academic, national institutes and life science research organisations

– to foster and involve centres of EU members states and of the Accession countries of Central and Eastern Europe (“NAC”) in training and capacity building for the research and development in the area of Vision Research

– to coordinate its activities with patient organisations

– to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the core activities by developing mechanisms of fund-raising and sponsoring

– to build a pan-European platform for clinical trials
